Fresh Taste in Axminster – Sublyme Cafe
If you haven’t ventured off the busy high street at Axminster, taken a stroll down Milton’s Yard, rounded the corner to the lovely gallery, and sampled the superb food available at ‘Sublyme’ then you surely should…
Kitted out in an eye-catching design of lime green and a snappy modern theme which includes wall motifs, local art exhibition and pleasingly comfortable furniture (there is even a sofa for those in need of additional TLC with their snack!) you’ll find lots of nice surprises at this relatively new Axminster foodie business.
We called in on the off-chance today after the excellent Music in the Church jazz concert (something else that is an Axminster-‘must’ if you haven’t already been!) and enjoyed speedy and incredibly friendly service. Our tea arrived almost before we had ordered, or so it seemed. Our light snack was of Thai Chicken Toastie, served with red onion, chilli jam and a fresh salad; we also ordered the innovative mushroom on toast topped with poached free-range egg, parmesan cheese and salad. Both snacks were superb: fresh, well thought-through, pleasantly presented and super fast in delivery.
The menu board reaches from ceiling to floor (well, almost!) and proudly but modestly proclaims that ‘all meat is sourced from our local Honiton butcher’. Having read that, it was only my own modesty that prevented me going for seconds with the local burger!Sublyme offers daily specials including fresh soups. This modern and stylish café runs by its own motto that food and flavour comes ‘from plant to palate’.
So there we go – two very satisfied customers. And if you think such a glowing review is simply ridiculous, think again: it is simply ‘Sublyme’.
Sublyme opens from 9-4:30 on weekdays; 9-4 on Saturdays but alas, on Sunday you’ll have to wander elsewhere for such good food and service.
